Offer a “Call for Quote” or “We’ll Contact You” Option

Overview

Say you have a need to offer a specialized quote which customers need to call in for. Often times this is called a “Call for Quote” method, where the customer should still be able to check out, but with a message denoting that they need to get in touch with you.

You can set this up in ShipperHQ using a custom method. Steps below.

Setup

Part 1: Create Your Carrier

  1. Add a Custom Flat Rate Carrier from the Carriers page.
  2. Name your Carrier. i.e. “Call for Quote” (or something relevant for you) and select Continue

  3. When the Carrier is successfully installed, choose Configure Carrier Settings
  4. Under Shipping Rates, set the shipping rate to be 0.
  5. Fill out the Shipping Method Name field. Whatever you enter as the shipping method name will be what displays to the customer in checkout.
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the carrier settings, and Save.

Part 2: Create your Rules

You will require different rules depending on when you want this method to show:

  • Show for Certain Products only
  • Show for Certain Zones only
  • Show for Certain Customer Groups only

Instructions for each option are detailed below.

Restrict Display of Carrier

Show ‘Call for Quote’ for Certain Zones only

To restrict this Call for Quote option to only show for certain destinations (i.e. International), you will need to Configure your Zone in ShipperHQ, and then Set that zone under the Call for Quote Carrier Display Restrictions.

Show ‘Call for Quote’ for Certain Customer Groups only

Pre-requisite: You will need to enable Customer Groups in ShipperHQ and have them set up

  1. Go to Shipping Rules and click the +New button
  2. Under the Basic tab, give a descriptive name to your rule (e.g. “Hide Call for Quote unless Retail Group in cart”)
  3. Under the Shipping Methods section under “Custom Shipping Methods Assigned”, select the Call for Quote shipping method you created in Part 1
  4. In the Actions panel, set the action to “Hide my selected Shipping Methods”.
  5. In the Conditions tab, under Customer Groups Include, choose the customer groups that DO NOT get a call for quote option.
  6. Save and test the Shipping Rule.

Show ‘Call for Quote’ for Certain Products only

  1. Go to Shipping Rules and click the +New button
  2. Under the Basic tab, give a descriptive name to your rule (e.g. “Show Call for Quote when certain items in cart”)
  3. Under the Shipping Methods section under “Custom Shipping Methods Assigned”, select the Call for Quote shipping method you created in Part 1
  4. In the Actions panel, set the action to “Hide my selected Shipping Methods”
  5. In the Conditions tab, under Shipping Groups Includes One or More, choose the shipping group that requires a call for quote option. If you have not created it yet, you can choose ‘Add New’ from the dropdown and set the name for this group. For example, we’ll call ours “QUOTE”
  6. Save and test the Shipping Rule.

This rule will hide all of the shipping methods except for the new Call for Quote method whenever your shipping group is in the cart.

You need one more rule to hide Call for Quote when your shipping group isn’t in the cart.

  1. Go to Shipping Rules and click the +New button
  2. Under the Basic tab, give a descriptive name to your rule (e.g. “Hide call for quote when ‘Quick’ isn’t in the cart”)
  3. Under the Shipping Methods section under “Custom Shipping Methods Assigned”, select the Call for Quote shipping method you created in Part 1
  4. In the Actions panel, set the action to “Hide my selected Shipping Methods”
  5. In the Conditions panel, under the Shipping Groups do NOT include dropdown, select your shipping group from Part 2 (in our case, the QUOTE group).
  6. Save and test the Shipping Rule.

This rule will hide the Call for Quote method whenever items that aren’t “Quote” are in the cart.

When products that are not assigned to your shipping group are in the cart, the second rule will take effect and the “Will call” method will not be displayed. If a product from the “QUOTE” shipping group is in the cart, the first rule will hide all other methods and only show Call for Quote.

Test Your Rates

Verify that your carriers and rules are working and see how they will display in your checkout right from the ShipperHQ dashboard.
