Example: Custom Rates using Carrier Rules

This article describes how you can use a Custom Carrier with just carrier rules to get offline rating in the checkout.  You can use only a table rate with custom carrier or a combination of table rates with carrier rules if you prefer.

There are 2 parts to this process:

  1. Add and configure the carrier
  2. Add the Carrier Rules to set the shipping prices

Adding the Carrier

  1. Click on “Carriers” in the left sidebar
  2. Click “Add New” to add a new carrier
  3. In the “Create New Carrier” modal, enter the desired name for your carrier in “Carrier Name”, set “Carrier Type” to “User Defined Carrier” and select “Custom Defined” under “Carrier” (see screenshot)
  4. Click “Create Carrier”
  5. Enter the name to be shown to customers under “Carrier Title to display in checkout” in the “Carrier Overview” panel.
  6. Choose at least one Shipping Origin under “Shipping Origins”

We’ve walked through the process of setting up a Custom Rate carrier with an associated Carrier Rule and Zone. If you followed these instructions, you now have a basic, working Custom Rates carrier.

Please bear in mind that if you do not cover all conditions then you will not see rates. For example if you only set up a rule for US 48 then no carrier rates will show for a UK address. The same applies with other conditions such as price, weight, etc.
