Troubleshooting Rate Discrepancies Between Test Your Rates and the Storefront
If you notice that the rates shown in Test Your Rates (TYR) differ from those displayed on your storefront, follow the steps below to identify and resolve the issue.
1. Verify Product and Shipping Data in Test Your Rates (TYR)
Check that all product details used in the storefront and Test Your Rates are consistent. Pay special attention to:
-
Shipping groups: Ensure the products in TYR are assigned to the proper shipping groups.
-
Dimensions and weight: Verify that the product dimensions and weights in TYR match the actual products weight/dimensions on the platform.
- Addresses: Make sure that you are using the exact same address in TYR as you have submitted at checkout or within an order.
-
Packing rules: Confirm that any packing rules are correctly applied.
Even small inconsistencies, different zip code, weight being a decimal off, in this data can cause ShipperHQ to return different rates.
2. Check the Cart Setup at Checkout
Compare the cart on your storefront with the one in Test Your Rates:
-
Ensure the quantities, products, origins, shipping addresses, shipping groups at checkout are identical to what you have submitted in TYR.
-
If possible, replicate the storefront cart exactly at checkout to ensure a fair comparison.
3. Validate ShipperHQ Configuration
If the TYR and the storefront cart are identical but the rates still differ:
-
Double-check that weight, dimensions, packing rules, and shipping groups are set up correctly within the platform.
-
Make sure ShipperHQ can read these settings correctly from your eCommerce platform.
4. Review Rules
If the cart is identical in Test Your Rates and Checkout, and the rate is still off then double check your rules.
- If you find that a rule is not firing at checkout compared to Test Your Rates you'll need to review the rule
- Check to see if the rule is targeting the entire shipment, or just a set of groups.
- Check the conditions of the rule. It could be that checkout does not meet the conditions of the rule, but Test Your Rates does
5. Additional Tips
-
Review any carrier-specific rules or rate adjustments that may apply only in one context.
-
Ensure you’re testing with the same origin address and shipping method visibility settings, i.e., Shipping Group Restrictions, Hide Methods Rules, Origin Restrictions, and Carrier Zone Restrictions.
If after these checks the discrepancy persists, gather examples of both rate results and contact ShipperHQ support for further investigation.
