Different Shipping Rates After Moving eCommerce Platforms

Overview

When moving from one eCommerce platform or store to another, you may notice that ShipperHQ returns different shipping rates than those shown on the previous store. This is common and usually related to configuration differences between the two ShipperHQ accounts or differences in platform side data.

This article outlines the key areas to review to ensure shipping rates return consistently after a migration.

What to Check After a Platform Migration

1. Carrier Configuration

Confirm that carrier settings are consistent between the old and new ShipperHQ accounts.

Review the following:

  • Live Rate Carriers such as UPS, FedEx, USPS, or Freight carriers

  • Custom Carriers such as Table Rates or Flat Rate methods

  • Carrier services enabled or disabled

  • Carrier credentials and environments

Any difference in carrier configuration can result in different rates being returned.

2. Shipping Rules and Supporting Settings

Ensure that all shipping logic was migrated correctly.

Verify the following were copied accurately:

  • Shipping Rules

  • Shipping Zones

  • Shipping Groups

  • Filters and conditions used within rules

Missing or incomplete rules can change which methods appear or how rates are adjusted.

3. Platform Side Configuration

ShipperHQ relies on product and cart data sent from the eCommerce platform. Differences in this data can directly affect rate results.

Key items to review:

  • Product weights

  • Product dimensions

  • Shipping Groups or attributes

  • Origin assignments

For example, if product weight values differ between the old and new stores, Live Rate Carriers will return different rates even when ShipperHQ settings are identical.

Common Migration Issues

  • Products missing weight or dimensions in the new store

  • Shipping Groups not mapped correctly

  • Default origins set differently

  • Rules copied without all dependencies

Summary

If shipping rates differ after migrating eCommerce platforms, review carrier configurations, Shipping Rules, and platform side product data. Ensuring consistency across both ShipperHQ accounts and store configurations will help restore expected rate behavior.
