Shipping Insights: Calculated Shipping Cost vs Shipping Fees

Overview

Within Shipping Insights, you may see both Calculated Shipping Cost and Shipping Fees displayed for an order. While these values are related, they represent different stages of the shipping rate calculation.

Calculated Shipping Cost

The Calculated Shipping Cost represents the base shipping rate returned before any adjustments are applied.

This value comes from:

  • Live carrier APIs such as UPS, FedEx, or USPS

  • Table Rate carriers

  • Custom or static carriers

It reflects the raw rate provided by the carrier or rate table prior to any ShipperHQ rules or fees.

Shipping Fees

The Shipping Fees value represents the final shipping amount after ShipperHQ has applied additional logic.

This includes:

  • Shipping Rules

  • Carrier handling fees

This is the amount that is ultimately presented to the customer at checkout.

Summary

  • Calculated Shipping Cost is the base rate returned by the carrier or rate source.

  • Shipping Fees is the final rate after all rules and fees are applied.

Understanding the difference between these values can help when troubleshooting rate calculations or auditing shipping costs in Shipping Insights.
