Overview
When managing your store's checkout process, the selection of countries that appears in the dropdown menu is not controlled by ShipperHQ. Instead, this feature is managed by your eCommerce platform. This guide will help you understand how to manage the selectable countries at checkout through your platform's settings.
Managing Selectable Countries
To adjust which countries appear during the checkout process, you need to:
- Access your eCommerce platform's settings
- Modify your Shipping Profiles to include or exclude specific countries
- Adjust your platform's shipping configuration directly to set available countries
Platform Support:
Shopify and Magento (Adobe Commerce) both support restricting the country dropdown at checkout based on your platform's shipping zone configuration when using the standard ShipperHQ app. ShipperHQ respects the countries you've configured in your platform's shipping settings.

The behavior of the Country and State or Region dropdowns at checkout varies depending on which ShipperHQ app you use.
Standard ShipperHQ BigCommerce App
When using the standard ShipperHQ BigCommerce app:
- The checkout Country and State or Region dropdowns are controlled entirely by BigCommerce's default shipping setup
- BigCommerce includes all countries by default
- ShipperHQ does not control or restrict what appears in those dropdowns
- Your Shipping Zones configured within ShipperHQ will not limit the Country list displayed at checkout
Because this is managed by BigCommerce, ShipperHQ cannot modify the available Country or State options through configuration.
Custom Theme Development Option
If you need to restrict or modify the dropdown values while using the standard app, this would require custom development within your BigCommerce theme.
Important: Neither BigCommerce nor ShipperHQ provides support for custom code implementations. You would need to work with your internal development team or a third-party BigCommerce developer.
ShipperHQ Plus App
With the ShipperHQ Plus app, the country dropdown behavior changes:
- The Plus app integrates directly into BigCommerce's native shipping settings
- BigCommerce Shipping Zones are respected at checkout
- Only Countries and States or Regions configured in your BigCommerce shipping zones will appear in the dropdown
Example:
If your BigCommerce default shipping setup only includes a United States shipping zone, then only the United States will appear in the Country dropdown at checkout.
