How to Show or Hide LTL Accessorials Based on Shipping Groups

Overview

ShipperHQ does not currently support dynamically showing or hiding LTL accessorials based on the Shipping Groups present in the cart. If a Freight/LTL carrier (also, Table Rate carrier) includes accessorial options, those accessorials will always appear at checkout unless they have been manually disabled within the carrier’s Accessorial Settings.

However, you can achieve the desired behavior using a configuration workaround that separates accessorials based on product groups.

Why Accessorials Cannot Be Conditioned by Shipping Group

Accessorial visibility for Carriers is not condition based. This means accessorials cannot automatically change based on:

  • Shipping Groups

  • Product attributes

  • Cart content

  • Rules or filters

If accessorials are enabled, they will appear for any quote returned by that carrier. If they are disabled, they will not appear at all.

Recommended Workaround

Step 1. Create a Separate Freight/LTL Carrier for Must Ship Freight Groups

Create a dedicated Carrier specifically for products that belong to Shipping Groups that must always ship via Freight.

This Carrier should:

  • Not include any accessorials

  • Return only the rates needed for these Freight only groups

Because this carrier does not have accessorials enabled, none will appear at checkout when these groups are in the cart.

Step 2. Assign the Carrier to the Appropriate Shipping Groups

Use Shipping Rules or carrier restrictions to ensure this Freight only Carrier appears only when the associated Shipping Group is in the cart.

Step 3. Keep Your Original Carrier for All Other Groups

Your existing Freight/LTL carrier (with accessorials enabled) will continue to display accessorial options when carts contain standard products that do not require Freight shipping.

This allows:

  • Accessorials to display for normal shipments

  • Accessorials to remain hidden when “Must Ship Freight” items are present

Summary

While ShipperHQ cannot conditionally hide LTL accessorials based on Shipping Groups, you can simulate this behavior by creating a separate Carrier for Freight only groups.

  • The standard carrier displays accessorials

  • The Freight only carrier does not

  • Carrier restrictions determine which carrier appears based on the products in the cart

This provides reliable, predictable control over when accessorials appear at checkout.
