FedEx Additional Handling Surcharges
Learn about the new FedEx 'Additional Handling Surcharges - Dimension and Oversize' and how they impact rates on ShipperHQ.
Overview
FedEx has updated the assessment criteria for Additional Handling Surcharge — Dimension and Oversize Charge. These changes introduce new cubic volume criteria, and for Oversize Charge, an additional weight criterion, alongside the existing surcharges
Additional Handling Surcharge - Dimension
A new cubic volume criterion has been added.
This surcharge will apply to any package with:
-
Cubic volume greater than 10,368 cubic inches
Cubic volume calculation:
Length × Width × Height (in inches)
Existing criteria for Additional Handling Surcharge — Dimension will continue to apply.
Additional Handling Surcharge - Oversize
Two new criteria has been added: cubic volume and actual weight.
Oversize Charge will apply to any package that meets either of the following conditions:
-
Cubic volume greater than 17,280 cubic inches
(Length × Width × Height in inches) -
Actual weight greater than 110 lbs
All existing Oversize Charge criteria will remain in effect in addition to these new thresholds.
How to Calculate Cubic Volume
To determine whether a package meets the cubic volume criteria:
-
Measure the package’s length, width, and height in inches.
-
Multiply the three dimensions together:
Cubic Volume = Length × Width × Height
Compare the result to the applicable cubic volume threshold.
Impact
Packages that previously did not qualify for "Additional Handling Surcharge — Dimension or Oversize" charge may now be subject to these charges if they exceed the new cubic volume or weight thresholds.
We recommend reviewing package dimensions and weights carefully to understand how these changes may affect your shipments.
